SkyTeam is anchored by Delta Air Lines, Air France-KLM, Korean Air, and Aeromexico, which means its strongest routes run through Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Paris, Amsterdam, Seoul, and Mexico City. If your travel pattern already lines up with those cities, the alliance earns its keep. If it does not, you are mostly looking at a logo.

Before you commit points

Compare cash fares, award pricing, and partner availability before booking on points. Benefits can look similar across member airlines on paper, but upgrade rules, seat access, and lounge policies still differ by carrier and status tier.

Who should use it

SkyTeam is generally regarded as the weakest of the three major alliances for award availability and partner redemption value, and pretending otherwise does not help you plan a trip. Flying Blue is worth a second look

Air France-KLM's Flying Blue program is a genuinely useful alternate booking currency if you are anchored to Delta, since it can sometimes access partner award space or better pricing than booking directly through Delta's own program. It is not a secret, but it is underused by travelers who assume their home program is automatically the best door in.
